The Costa Del Mar Tuna Alley 9009 sunglasses are named after a legendary 15-mile stretch of white sand cutting through the deep blue Bahamian waters where giant bluefin tuna migrate north each spring. Built for anglers who demand performance, these rectangular fishing sunglasses deliver Costa's renowned optical clarity in a frame that's ready for long days on the water.
Costa 580 Lens Technology: See More, Fish Better
At the heart of the Tuna Alley is Costa's patented 580 lens technology. These lenses filter out harsh yellow light at 580 nanometers and absorb harmful high-energy blue (HEV) light, which causes eye fatigue and long-term damage. The result? Reds, greens, and blues pop with exceptional contrast and definition. You'll spot fish beneath the surface that you'd miss with ordinary sunglasses.
Choose between two lens materials: 580P polycarbonate lenses offer lightweight durability and impact resistance at a lower price point, while 580G glass lenses deliver superior optical clarity and scratch resistance—20% thinner and 22% lighter than typical polarized glass. Both options provide 100% UV protection and full polarization to kill reflected glare off water, chrome, and asphalt.
Built for the Water
The Tuna Alley's rectangular acetate frame features integral hinges for strength and a patented vent system at the bottom corners of each lens that promotes airflow and prevents fogging—critical when you're moving between air-conditioned cabins and humid decks. The 62mm lens width provides generous coverage, and the full-wrap 8-base curve blocks peripheral light while reducing wind and spray.
Hydrolite rubber on the nose pads and temple tips grips better when wet, keeping the frames locked in place when you're leaning into a fish or bouncing through chop. Reviewers with larger heads consistently report an excellent fit. The frame is prescription-ready, so you can add your Rx and maintain the same performance optics.
Who It's For
Serious anglers choose the Tuna Alley for offshore and inshore fishing, but its versatility extends beyond the boat. Customers report using them for driving (the polarization cuts dashboard glare beautifully), hiking, and everyday wear. Available in 22 frame and lens combinations—from blackout frames with gray lenses to crystal clear frames with blue mirror 580G glass—there's a Tuna Alley for every light condition and personal style.

Still waiting one month later for my sunglasses. First, the sunglasses were not available and had to be ordered from the manufacturer. Next, the winter storm delayed shipping. Then, tee received the WRONG pair of sunglasses. The incorrect pair has been delivered two days now but still do not have confirmation email that the correct sunglasses have been sent. Soooo frustrating!! Especially when they were a gift for a very special vacation. Heartbroken!

Costa Del Mar Tuna Alley 9009 Sunglasses
Ordering two pair of sunglasses ratger than going to a store is a must. of you know what you like, ordering from DesignerOptics is highly recommended!
I can’t say enough about these sunglasses. I used to be a big time Oakley wearer, but since trying on my first pair of Costa del Mar glasses, I have bought three pair. These Tuna Alley are light and give great coverage. The lenses are so clear I often forget I am wearing them when I go indoors. I highly suggest finding a pair of Costa, especially the Tuna Alley, to purchase. You won’t be upset.

Frequently Asked Questions
Are the Costa Tuna Alley 9009 sunglasses prescription-ready?
Yes, the Costa Tuna Alley 9009 frames are prescription-ready and can accommodate both single-vision and progressive lenses. You can order them with Costa's 580P polycarbonate or 580G glass prescription lenses, maintaining the same color-enhancing and polarization technology. The rectangular shape and 62mm lens width provide ample room for most prescriptions.
What's the difference between Costa 580G and 580P lenses?
580G lenses are made of glass and offer superior optical clarity and scratch resistance, while being 20% thinner and 22% lighter than typical polarized glass. 580P lenses are polycarbonate—lighter, more impact-resistant, and about $50 less expensive. Both provide the same 580 color-enhancement technology, 100% UV protection, and full polarization. Choose 580G for ultimate clarity or 580P for durability and everyday wear.
Do the Tuna Alley sunglasses fit large heads?
Yes, the Tuna Alley 9009 has a large fit with a 62mm lens width and is designed to fit average to larger head sizes comfortably. Multiple reviewers with large heads report an excellent, secure fit. The full-wrap design and Hydrolite rubber temple tips keep them in place even during active use on the water.
How does the Tuna Alley vent system prevent fogging?
The Tuna Alley features Costa's patented vent system with small vents positioned at the bottom corners of each lens. These vents promote airflow across the lens surface, preventing condensation and fog buildup when moving between temperature extremes or during high-activity use. This is especially valuable when fishing in humid conditions or transitioning from air-conditioned spaces to the outdoors.
What lens color is best for fishing with the Tuna Alley?
Green mirror lenses are the most versatile for inshore and flats fishing, enhancing contrast in varying light conditions. Blue mirror lenses excel in bright, full-sun offshore situations. Gray lenses provide true color perception and are ideal for general use and driving. Sunrise silver mirror lenses work well in low-light dawn and dusk conditions. All lens colors feature Costa's 580 technology for enhanced clarity.
Can I use Costa Tuna Alley sunglasses for activities other than fishing?
Absolutely. While designed for fishing, the Tuna Alley excels at any outdoor activity. Customers report excellent performance for driving (the polarization eliminates dashboard and road glare), hiking, biking, and everyday wear. The durable acetate frame, anti-fog venting, and 100% UV protection make them a versatile choice for anyone who spends time outdoors.

Costa Tuna Alley vs Fantail vs Blackfin: Which Fishing Sunglasses Are Right for You?
All three frames are part of Costa's legendary Angler series and feature the same 580 lens technology, 100% UV protection, and full polarization. The differences come down to fit, styling, and specific features.
Size and Fit
The Tuna Alley 9009 offers the largest fit with 62mm lenses, making it ideal for average to larger head sizes. The Fantail 9006 is more compact at 58mm, better suited for smaller to average faces. The Blackfin 9014 sits between them with a large fit similar to the Tuna Alley but with thicker temples for extra sun blocking.
Performance Features
The Tuna Alley's standout feature is its patented corner vent system, which promotes airflow and prevents fogging—a real advantage when moving between air-conditioned spaces and humid outdoor conditions. The Fantail and Blackfin lack this venting but compensate with their own strengths: the Fantail's rounder, more lifestyle-friendly look works on and off the water, while the Blackfin's wider temples block more peripheral sunlight during all-day offshore trips.
Styling
The Tuna Alley has an aggressive, angular rectangular shape with functional vent accents that announce its fishing pedigree. The Fantail is rounder and more understated—easier to wear as everyday sunglasses. The Blackfin splits the difference with bold, blocky styling that's unmistakably Costa.
Our Recommendation
Choose the Tuna Alley 9009 if you have a larger head, fish in humid conditions where fogging is an issue, or want maximum coverage and the most aggressive styling. Its vent system and generous fit make it the top choice for serious anglers who spend long days on the water. The Fantail is better for smaller faces or anyone wanting a more versatile, lifestyle-friendly frame, while the Blackfin suits those who prioritize maximum sun blocking with thicker temple coverage.
